Ingredients:
4 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or your choice)
4-6 ounces of your favorite cheese (cheddar, Swiss, American, etc.), thinly sliced or shredded
2 tablespoons butter, softened
Optional add-ons: sliced tomatoes, cooked bacon, caramelized onions, avocado, etc.
Instructions:
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
Take two slices of bread and spread one side of each with butter.
Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, on the skillet or griddle.
Layer the cheese evenly on top of the bread slice on the skillet.
If desired, add any additional ingredients like tomatoes, bacon, onions, avocado, etc., on top of the cheese.
Place the other slice of bread on top, butter-side up.
Cook the sandwich for about 2-3 minutes, or until the bottom bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt.
Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
Remove the sandwich from the skillet or griddle and let it cool for a minute or two.
Cut the grilled cheese sandwich in half or into quarters, if desired.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Additional Tips:
You can experiment with different types of bread and cheese to create your own unique flavor combinations.
For extra flavor, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or Dijon mustard on the bread slices before adding the cheese.
If you prefer a crispy exterior, you can press the sandwich down with a spatula while cooking.
Serve the grilled cheese sandwich with a side of tomato soup or a pickle for a classic combination.
Enjoy your delicious homemade grilled cheese sandwich!
